October 6
Busy trailhead, kind of an open area, and no toilets had us looking up and down the road a little. Rudy spotted a building that we moved down to - visitor center? former inn? It wasn't open, but there were portapotties outside! The lot was for Helen Hunt Falls on Buffalo Creek. Rudy went for a ride, while I lazed around the van a bit and did some easy hiking to enjoy some fading fall colors, creek sounds, and nice views.

There were lots of people for a Thursday, I couldn't imagine the
weekend! Rudy returned after a few hours of loose rocky trails with some
nasty washouts.

It wasn't all like this... |
The forecast for rain held off, but still cold and breezy - Pikes Peak even got a few inches of snow! Glad we completed that adventure when we did. Next we headed for Salida, stopping at a BLM dispersed camping area just east of town on the Arkansas River. My leg soreness increased a bit during the day - good to know I put in a good effort! Evening fun was quinoa and veggies for dinner and watching Lemony Snicket.
